What's On

NOW OPEN!

Botanical

Bring your family and visit our Botanical Room at the Mary MacKillop Place Museum this Christmas holidays and beyond. Open seven days (excluding Public Holidays).

The room and activities are inspired by the discoveries and observations in nature by   Fr. Julian Tenison Woods [co-founder of the Sisters of St Joseph].

The space will be open to visitors throughout the first half of the year. You are invited to:

  • Create your very own observational   drawings from 3D models
  • Draw from natural specimens
  • Sketch directly from nature by the stream in ‘The Reconciliation Garden’.
  • Contribute to the wall artwork
  • Share in colouring a community mural project

Art supplies, including props to draw, available for you to go wild!

At the conclusion of the school holiday period the finished work will be displayed in the museum.

Take refuge from the outside world and relax in a family friendly space only steps from the café, or relax in the gardens and draw directly from nature.

PLANNING YOUR FAMILY VISIT

Our friendly museum staff will introduce you to the Botanical Room. We hope that this will be a special experience for your family.

  • The Botanical Room is not supervised. Children learn best in the company of a trusted adult, so please stay with your child/children at all times. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent-carer.
  • ‘Hands-on’ activities are specifically designed for children to enjoy. We recommend children do not wear their best clothes when taking part in these art-making activities. The museum supplies reusable aprons for all children.
  • The Museum is wheelchair and pram accessible. Change room facilities are available next to the Botanical Room.
  • Small belongings can be taken into the Museum.  Umbrellas, backpacks, large bags and all food must be checked into the Admissions Desk. Water bottles may be taken into the Botanical Room.
  • Food, tea, coffee and cold drinks are available for purchase at the café adjacent to the Botanical Room.
