Permanent Exhibitions

Permanent ExhibitionsMary MacKillop Place Museum provides a unique opportunity for visitors to experience, understand and appreciate the life and times of Mary MacKillop – a truly great Australian.

The permanent exhibition enables the visitor to walk through the extraordinary events of Mary’s life.  The Museum uses modern technology to tell the story through the significant characters and events, recreated so as to place us right into the circumstances and emotions as if we were witnesses to the actual reality.  The Museum thereby becomes more than a viewing of history but an inspirational, spiritual experience in which we are called to reflect not only on the heroic qualities of Mary MacKillop but also on our own responses to life events and circumstances.

Mary MacKillop Place Museum has developed a temporary exhibition program in order to explore different aspects of Mary MacKillop's life story and Josephite history not told in the permanent exhibition.  The travelling exhibition component of our temporary exhibition program reflects an awareness and ongoing participation with current affairs by the Museum, serving as a vehicle in showcasing the foundational values of Mary MacKillop to the wider community and their relevance to contemporary society.
