Pilgrimages

The notion of going on a pilgrimage and being a pilgrim is a very ancient one that belongs to the spiritual tradition of all great faiths.  Mary MacKillop Place and in particular the Tomb of Mary MacKillop have become a place of pilgrimage.

Thousands of pilgrims visit Mary MacKillop Place each year on 8 August - Mary MacKillop's Feast Day.  Masses are celebrated throughout the day in the Chapel and other locations on site. The Museum and Shop are also open for pilgrims to experience Mary MacKillop's story and enjoy Josephite hospitality.

 

8th of the Month Celebrations

8th of the Month Celebrations

As Mary MacKillop died on 8th August, the 8th day of each month has become a special day for pilgrims to visit Mary MacKillop Place. Pilgrims are invited to participate in the celebration of the Eucharist and pray at the Tomb of Mary MacKillop. The Museum and Shop are also open for pilgrims.

 

National Pilgrimage

2005 National PilgrimageAn Australian Pilgrimage is organised in October each year 'In the Footsteps of Blessed Mary MacKillop'.This pilgrimage visits many of the sites associated with Mary MacKillop’s life and work in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.
