For three decades, Mary MacKillop Place has welcomed thousands seeking peace and inspiration in North Sydney. This anniversary exhibition revisits some of the milestones, memories, and moments that have shaped our story, from welcoming pilgrims worldwide to celebrating the legacy of the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
Inspired by the Jubilee Year and Pope Francis’ “pilgrimage of hope,” we’re reminded that hope is something we live and share. This exhibition also highlights the ongoing work of Mary MacKillop Today, where stories of hope and transformation in Timor-Leste and Australia show that hope is very much alive today.
Included in your ticket price is access to a Hope Walk Pilgrimage resource that has been designed to take you through Mary MacKillop Place with a reflection on the theme of ‘Hope’. These are available for collection with your ticket.
Join us on this journey. Walk through the past and be inspired for what’s to come.

Registrations are now open for the 2025 ‘In the Footsteps of Mary MacKillop’ National Pilgrimage.
Join us for a journey that offers unique insights into the history & legacy of our Australian Saint. The journey will begin in East Melbourne, Victoria on Tuesday, 9 September 2025 and will conclude at Mary MacKillop Place in North Sydney, New South Wales on Saturday, 20 September 2025.
During this time you will visit many places associated with Mary MacKillop’s life and ministry across Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales, offering a unique perspective into aspects of Mary’s whole life. This pilgrimage offers a very personal experience of reflection and revelation while also giving you the opportunity to journey alongside others: seeking, listening, reflecting and seeing the hand of God at work in our own lives.
The notion of going on a pilgrimage and being a pilgrim is a very ancient one that belongs to the spiritual tradition of all great faiths. Places of pilgrimage beckon people to get caught up in the atmosphere and spiritual realities that belong to their origins. However, it is not only the site that takes people deep into the heart of their faith, but the journey itself.
