The story behind the name
The Temuka Apartments are named in honour of the town of Temuka on the South Island of Aotearoa, New Zealand. In 1883, three Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart journeyed from Adelaide to establish a new foundation in Temuka, thanks to the persistent efforts of Fr L Fauvel, a French Marist priest. Inspired by the Sisters’ dedication to education and service in isolated communities, he invited them to set up a school, St Joseph’s, that continues to thrive today.
